tomtom Speed cameras

About speed cameras.

You may consider yourself a careful driver but it is impossible to always concentrate on both driving and the other factors on the road. Speed cameras are part of that and if they catch you, the consequences are 3 points on your licence and a hefty fine.
Some may argue that 'you should always drive within the speed limit' but you'd be suprised how easy it is to go 5mph over the limit, especially if the road ahead is clear.

You can buy a camera detector but those cost around £200 and it means having another unit on your dashboard which increases the risk of your vehicle being broken into.
Well, thankfully your tomtom can offer a simpler solution with speed camera data;

The tomtom speed camera locator works by locating positions of fixed cameras on the map, for non fixed cameras i.e. mobile cameras and temps, it locates the regular positions instead (by law the police are only allowed to place cameras at regular accident blackspots), these locations will show up on the road as you drive by flashing an image on the screen and sounding a warning (when activated). You can set the distance from which you wish to be warned for instance 300metres before the you reach the camera, they also show you the speed at which the camera is set.

There are 2 types of tomtom speed camera locators available;
* One is through TomTom Plus which is a subscription service, data is automatically updated at regular intervals without you having to do anything.

* The other is the POI version (provided by various websites); the positions of the cameras are pre recorded as POI Data, when you're approaching a camera the warning will be activated as a POI. This option is cheaper than TomTom Plus, but to update the camera locations you'd need to download a new set of POI's, however this shouldn't be very often because speed camera locations are not changed that frequently, once every 6 months should be ok.

Whichever option you choose, its should reduce the chances of being caught by a speed camera by about 90% but altimately you should drive responsibly.
