Installing a splash screen
Installing a splash screen is a fairly simple task, although some people shouldn't need these instructions and if you've done this before you be able to do it in 2 minutes, i'll make these instructions as 'Lehman's terms' as i possible can;
1. Connect your tomtom to your pc and switch it on.
2. Go to 'My computer' and Open the directory where tomtom data is stored (SD card or harddrive) as shown below
3. Remove the file ‘splash.bmp’ from your SD card. (or; if you want to keep the original on your SD card, you can just add a letter to it e.g. "Gsplash.bmp"), thus re-naming it.
4. Copy and paste the picture you downloaded onto the SD card (DO Not rotate it).
5. Rename this file ‘splash.bmp’ (all characters must be lowercase)
7. Turn off your Tom Tom and disconnect.
8. switch on your tomtom and you should see your new splash screen.
Notes: - Although i mainly refer to 'SD card', in cases of tomtom Go 700 this would be 'Harddrive'.
- The reason you need to re-name or remove the original splash screen is because when your tomtom starts it looks for a file 'splash.bmp', by renaming that file, your tomtom will bypass it. If there is no file under the name 'splash.bmp' or if the picture is the wrong size your tomtom will not start. See common mistakes below
Common mistakes:
in any case the splash screens is the wrong size, the tomtom will switch itself off. to solve this, Check the following;
- Is it the right size? it should be: 240 X 320
- Is the name correct? make sure all characters are lowercase, it should be "splash.bmp"
- Is it in the right place? a splash screen should be in the root and not inside any folder.
